Jennie's Finishes 2013

February 2013 saw the first finishes of the year (and quite a few starts!)

Pembrokeshire Quilt

I started this quilt in October 2013 as part of the Travellin' Stitch Pics Blog Hop and link up. I'd seen a lot of ferris wheel English paper pieced projects on Flickr, especially this beauty. I decided to make my own based on a photo I took on the Pembrokeshire coast above Porthgain in June last year. It was hand-pieced and appliqued, mostly in Budapest, in November; I added the embroidery over Christmas; then hand-stitched the binding and hand-quilted it in Budapest in February. My first finish of the year!

Pac Mania

Pac Mania was a Jelly Roll Quilt from Jelly Roll Dreams by Pam and Nicky Lintott. I used a Ruby Jelly Roll with Kona Snow. To finish it off I free motion quilted a stipple in all of the background, leaving the dresden sections to really pop, then added a scrappy binding.

Steph's Quilt

Steph's Hot Cross Bun Quilt was a WIP for a very long time - a 21st birthday present for my 23 year-old sister-in-law! It is all batiks!

Daniela's Quilt

And another long term WIP and my largest finish to date at 116" x 116" - free motion quilted on my regular sewing machine! It's finally made it to Germany and Daniela is thrilled with it!

Debs's Quilt

My Dad as me to make this quilt for friends of his - you can read the story about the quilt here - and my Dad's answer to "what colours does she like".....typical man! This was another large quilt at 104" x 104"!

Ellie-Jo's Quilt

EJ is my beautiful new niece and every little girl needs a quilt (whether their Mam likes it or not). I loved using the new Art Gallery range and I'd been meaning to try plusses for months!

Bubbles - a baby quilt

Everyone's having babies! I made this quilt for a colleague at work - it was my first attempt at quilting pebbles and my own design.

Stepping stones - a baby quilt

Another baby quilt and my design again - you can find the instructions here:

Murmurations - a baby quilt

Another baby quilt - everyone is either having boys, or not finding out the sex of the baby until after I've mde and gifted the quilt - this one is for a little girl called Violet. The name Murmurations comes from the inspiration of birds sitting on a wire - a murmuration is a group of starlings.

Block keeper - a tutorial

I had been meaning to make a block keeper for ages and this uear of BOMs plus the Emerald challenge finally pushed me to make it. I also put together a tutorial for the Finish Along - so you can make your own! And my original blog post has links to the block patterns.

Placemats

And if it hasn't been babies, it's been weddings! These triangular place mats were made for Phil and Julia who got married in May

Placemats

And these place mats were made using the Lucky Stars patterns from Don't Call Me Betsy and were for Tom and Anna who got married in March.

Swap: Cushion cover

It was so hard to give this away! I see a full quilt in this style in my future. Someday!

Batik Wall-Hanging

This was a Christmas present for my Mum - there were a couple of false starts and a lot of hand sewing but both she and I love it! You can find more information on the journey here.

Table-runner: Hexagons

I'd been working on this one for well over a year and it as time to finish it. I loved piecing the hexies and I surprised myself by also enjoying the hand quilting. You can find more information here.

Two Table Runners - Love in the Christmas Mist

This is perhaps one of my favourite quilt blocks and I used it (and some fabric well outside of my normal choice) to make table runners for two lovely ladies who made knitted cardies for little Mia. There's more information here.

Table Runer - O Christmas Tree

This was outside of my comfort zone again - improv raw edge applique - my brain struggles with this. I used this as a chance to try matchstick quilting and I love the scrappy low volume background! You can find more information here.

Indian Summer  - a baby quilt

I made this as a class at our LQS but didn't know quite what to do with it until my Manager announced his wife was expecting. I had intended to free motion quilt it, but my machine was misbehaving, so I echoed some of the piecing lines. You can find more information here.

Mia's Quilt - a baby quilt

This had originally been for a colleague, but I fell head over heels in love with it, so decided to keep it for Baby Mia and it's one of my absolute favourites. You can see more information on the quilt here

Baby Blue - a Baby Quilt

Another manager, another baby expected - at least this time we knew for certain it was a boy! Check out the finish post to find out all about Sharon's version.

Medallion Quilt

Bear Paws - a Baby Quilt

My cousin asked me to create a quilt for a friend of hers who was decorating her nursery in green with animal paw prints. This was my own design. You can find more information here.

Rhubarb and Custard

This was one of the first quilts I ever started, but it was a class where we didn't get great instruction and it took me another 3 years to learn how to put quilt-as-you-go blocks together and another nine-months to get round to doing it! This one now hangs in Mia's nursery. You can find more information here.

Teddy Bear

Tom the Teddy was my first attempt at making a teddy bear - I'm rather fond of him. More information here.

Hidden Agenda [A Finish]

This is very possibly my favourite ever finish - I know I've said that in the past, but this one is going to be hard to beat. This time last year, I attended a day long lecture/workshop with Tula Pink and it was inspiring. Having not really loved her fabrics in the past (but loved her patterns), I suddenly saw them in a new light, linked with my 2018 new year's resolution to try more fussy cutting). Fast forward 8 months and I confess that my Tula stash has expanded quite a lot. I found some UK shops with older ranges of fabric, splurged on a few destashes and found the odd piece of her fabric already in my stash. The plan was always (and remains) to make a Smitten quilt, but I'm well aware that I have plenty of fabric to make other projects as well! So when I saw the Hidden Agenda quilt pattern by Angela Pingle, this fabric sprung instantly to mind.... and we all know I love a rainbow! And what could be better than rainbowfied Tula? I was ably assisted by my friend Ti

365 Quilt Challenge 2016 [A finish]

I can't believe I've just typed that heading! When I made the block for January 1st 2016 I could not have imagined the journey this quilt would have taken me on. So make yourselves comfortable and grab a cup of tea, because this blog post may get lengthy! I'd seen the 365 Quilt Challenge on Facebook. I think every quilter on Facebook must have been aware of it. Loads of my friends had signed up and it kept popping up as a "Page you might like" thing. In the end, in November 2015, I joined the group, had a poke round. Decided it wasn't for me. One of the things that really put me off were the fabric requirements: you needed x amount of dark dark fabric, x amount of medium dark fabric, x amount of dark medium, medium, light medium, light, background.... I just couldn't get my head round those requirements. I'd looked at the mock ups on the wesbite and couldn't bring myself to pick a colour. I put it to the back of my mind. But I had obvious

All the Little Finishes

I've had a few recent finishes - mostly smaller pieces and mostly not on my list to finish this year (because I've only just started them!) - lots and lots of pouches! Here's a round up... Three pouches I made for the kids for our holiday - all are the Seamingly Sane Pouch pattern, but I used the pattern add-on to adjust the sizes and customised with some straps and in one case, a pocket. These three pouches are made for our work Yubikeys when we travel to protect them - it's a slightly adjusted Aneela Hooey pattern - the peas are an inside joke! I knew I had pea fabric for a reason! A couple more Seamingly Sane pouches - the smaller one was a birthday present for my Dad, and the floral one was for me to protect my diary when I travel. Seven pouches made entirely from my scraps to hold EPP pieces pre sewing! This is the Peekapouch pattern by Sweet Cinnamon Roses. This is the Not So Little Zippy Pouch by Fabric and Flowers. The pattern is a bit of a challenge, but this
