Last year I decided not to do any more swaps. Then I joined Instagram and got sucked in. I've got two swaps due to send out in January, and the deadline for this one was yesterday. And miraculously, yesterday, I posted this mini quilt.
I knew early on what I wanted to make, but struggled for a while with what colour to use. In my head it was always purple, but I know some people aren't keen and I wasn't sure. In the end I went for it!
The centre low volume section came mostly from my scraps, and all of the purple came from my scraps! I had to raid my stash just to finish up the outside border and the binding. The binding was another decision - between purple and low volume scrappy - I'm glad I went for the low volume and let the single purple border pop. The quilting is matchstick "straight"-line quilting in all of the low volume.
The sewing machine shape is made from 1/2" hexies and this applique was the final things I did on the quilt. By leaving it to the end, the quilt was quite stable from the heavy quilting, so there was no puckering or creases as there may have been had I appliqued before quilting.
Every swap needs a little extra. As well as some novelty embroidery bobbins (shaped as Dachshunds) and some Chocolate, I added a two-in-one pouch. The pattern is from Sotak Handmade and I can definitely recommend it. It's a really well written pattern, and the pouch very easy to put together. I used the smaller size. Navy on the outside and bright coral on the inside!
This was a finish on my Q1 finish along list and is my first finish! So I'll be linking up with Adrianne in a few month's time!
And because I used loads of scraps (especially purple ones) I'm linking this up with Scraptastic Tuesday with Leanne and Nicky.
