More BOMs [Gen X]

I've been playing catch up again tonight and making the February blocks for the Gen X Sister BOM.

Gen X Quilters Sisters' Ten BOM

This month's block is called Susannah and was beautifully easy - I do like fiddly, but sometimes straightforward is nice too!

I've made both blocks in a couple of hours including distractions.

The fabric is Paparazzi from Red Rooster - it's a ten fat quarter pack I won in a giveaway over a year ago and I'm really like how the fabrics are working for this quilt.

I've also been playing at putting some fabrics together: I had some of the aqua blues out for another project and the pink Flea Market Fancy ended up on top of them in the pile on my table - once I'd seen it I couldn't get it out of my head, so I pulled a few more fabrics from my stash (and possibly bought a few too) and now I have a beautiful pile of fabrics and nothing to do with them - so watch out - I'm looking for a new project.

And last Saturday I ordered some Art Gallery Rock and Romance for another project I have in mind....

And I've also ordered Art Gallery Poetica for a Double Wedding Ring I'm starting in a few weeks time.....

I really must get some projects finished in the next couple of weeks before I start something new - a week holiday next week will definitely help!

I love the colours in your pile of fabrics - looking very promising. Whatever you make I think those colours will work beautifully.

365 Quilt Challenge 2016 [A finish]

I can't believe I've just typed that heading! When I made the block for January 1st 2016 I could not have imagined the journey this quilt would have taken me on. So make yourselves comfortable and grab a cup of tea, because this blog post may get lengthy! I'd seen the 365 Quilt Challenge on Facebook. I think every quilter on Facebook must have been aware of it. Loads of my friends had signed up and it kept popping up as a "Page you might like" thing. In the end, in November 2015, I joined the group, had a poke round. Decided it wasn't for me. One of the things that really put me off were the fabric requirements: you needed x amount of dark dark fabric, x amount of medium dark fabric, x amount of dark medium, medium, light medium, light, background.... I just couldn't get my head round those requirements. I'd looked at the mock ups on the wesbite and couldn't bring myself to pick a colour. I put it to the back of my mind. But I had obvious...

February Embroidery Along [A Finish]

I've really been enjoying my embroidery this year, after not doing very much last year. One of the challenges I set myself at the start of the year was to learn to colour tint my fabric before adding the embroidery - I love buying the pre-printed panels, but I'd like to do this myself as well. And the opportunity to learn this arose in February. Meg Hawkey of Crab Apple Hill Studio hosted a stitchalong to celebrate National Embroidery Month, and the first step was colour your fabric. I bought the pencils she advises,  the blending stumps, something called fabric extender and the pigma pen. And I gave it a go. My first attempt ended badly. Because the one thing I didn't buy was a new, clean paintbrush. So when I came to add the fabric extended, it went all bleary and muddy as, despite cleaning the paintbrush thoroughly, it obviously wasn't clean enough. It was unsalvageable so I started again, and I was so much happier with the results. The practice piece was, in...

Tula Nova [A Finish]

I can't believe it's been nearly two years since an epic day out in Huddersfield with the amazing Tula Pink. That day at Simply Solids was pretty close to the best day ever: a morning lecture by Tula where we got to see some of her quilts - and the amazing quilting by Angela Walters - and then an afternoon workshop with her starting work on the Tula Nova pattern. The centre that I made that day became a cushion, but I redid my centre and kept going with a rainbow or stars around it to create my final Tula Nova. All of the print fabrics are Tula All Stars with Pompoms and Stripes. The solids are all Kona. This was my first real time working with Tula Pink fabrics. I'd long been a fan of her patterns, but not her fabric. After this day I was a convert. We won't discuss how much Tula fabric I now have, nor how many of my current WIPs are Tula WIPs! But this was the start. The medallion is all hand pieced using English Paper Piecing. I learned about fussy cutting to...
